Meet The Practice Owner

Thomas W. Romanus

I believe therapy should feel both human and genuinely useful. Clients often describe my approach as present, insight focused and deeply attuned to what actually helps beyond the therapy room. Together, we clarify what matters most, identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck and develop practical ways to move forward towards the life you are seeking.

My work focuses on supporting individuals and couples navigating anxiety, work stress, relationship strain, communication challenges, infidelity, trauma recovery, life transitions and substance-related concerns. Whether you are working through stress within yourself or challenges within your relationship, the goal is the same: to create meaningful change that improves everyday life.

As a Licensed Professional Counselor and CAADC (Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor), I provide advanced clinical support for individuals struggling with substance use and destructive coping patterns. I am also trained in trauma-informed care and EMDR, helping clients work through deeper experiences that often contribute to anxiety, burnout and relationship difficulties. My work integrates evidence-informed approaches including attachment-based, trauma-aware, mindfulness-informed and practical skills-focused therapies, always tailored to your goals and your pace.

Earlier in my career, I spent more than two decades working in executive consulting and organizational leadership alongside physicians, medical professionals, entrepreneurs and senior leaders in demanding environments. That experience continues to shape how I understand pressure, responsibility and the emotional toll of carrying so much for so long. Today, it allows me to support individuals and couples navigating the complexities of professional life alongside the challenges of personal relationships.

A Little More About Me

Outside of my clinical work, my wife and I have raised five children, two hers and three mine, an experience that has deeply shaped my appreciation for family life, relationships and the realities people navigate every day. I’m also an avid woodworker and we enjoy working together on projects around our home and outdoor landscaping.

Writing is another passion of mine, I regularly create client focused in-depth educational articles and skill development guides to expand out of session learning and growth for individuals and couples.  I have also created instructional training and study guides for clinicians wishing to expand their current clinical skill sets or those preparing for their state credentialing exam.

How we’ll work together

Many people arrive at this point on a website wondering what therapy will actually feel like and whether it will truly help. That’s a very natural question. Understanding how the process works can make taking the next step feel much more comfortable.

Our work together is very collaborative and focused. We begin by understanding what has brought you here and what you would like to see change. From there, we identify the patterns, stressors or relational chalets that may be contributing to the difficulties you’re experiencing.

Sessions are thoughtful and conversational, but also purposeful. The goal is not simply insight, but progress that leads you from where you are to where you would like to be. Together we develop practical tools, skills and perspectives you can use outside of session so the work translates into real improvements in how you think, communicate and move through your life.

For couples, this often means learning to communicate in ways that rebuild trust, reduce recurring conflict and strengthen emotional connection and most importantly learning how to once again care for each other. For individuals, the work may focus on reducing anxiety, improving emotional balance, addressing destructive coping patterns, and restoring a clearer sense of direction.

Over time, many clients begin to notice subtle but meaningful changes: conversations feel easier, decisions become clearer, stress becomes more manageable and relationships feel more stable.

Therapy is not about becoming someone different. It is about reconnecting with the strength, clarity and direction that allow you to move forward in a healthier way.

Starting therapy takes courage and you deserve a place that meets you with calm, respect and genuine care. Here, you can set things down without being judged or rushed. We’ll slow the noise together, name what hurts and make sense of the story your mind and body have been carrying, so relief becomes ease you can feel in everyday moments.

In our work, you’re not a problem to fix, you’re a person to be understood. We move at your pace. We listen for what’s underneath the symptoms: the pressure that won’t let up, the distance that crept in, the grief that lingers, the questions you ask yourself when the house is finally quiet. Sessions are warm, focused, and evidence-informed; you’ll feel both the steadiness of being deeply seen and the practicality of small steps that actually help between visits.

Whether you’re an individual navigating anxiety, burnout, trauma history or a major life transition or a couple working through communication struggles, disconnection or the aftermath of broken trust, we’ll sit with what’s real and build the next right steps from there. Many clients describe a gentle shift: sleeping more easily, fewer spirals, conversations that land and moments of genuine closeness that feel possible again.

If this sounds like the kind of care you’ve been hoping to find, we’re ready to meet you. Schedule a complimentary 15-minute call to talk through fit, goals and where you might want to begin. You won’t have to figure it out alone.
